The Newburgh native has witnessed the hospital’s transformation in her time volunteering on thematernity ward, the Elaine Kaplan Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and now the hospital’s Pharmacy Department. Prokosch, along with more than 240 community volunteers were recognized for completing 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years of service at the event. SLCH volunteers are among the most active in the region, completing over 55,000 hours of service in 2007.
“Each year we pay tribute to our volunteers, who are friends and ambassadors of our hospital,” said Sue Sullivan, Vice President, Development and Government Affairs, and Executive Director, Foundation. "It is amazing to consider the time and dedication demonstrated by these individuals, and we thank them for their immeasurable contribution of skills and talent.”
Volunteers honored at the event also received certificates of appreciation from Senator William J. Larkin, Jr. for their contributions. SLCH volunteers represent a variety of personal and professional backgrounds. Many are homemakers, professionals, retirees, students and former patients. They work side-by-side with medical staff, assist patients and their families and lend a hand in the two gift shops or New To You Boutique which support hospital initiatives.
