New York State Senator William J. Larkin, Jr. met with Allan

E. Atzrott, President and CEO of St. Luke’sCornwall

Hospital(SLCH) on Friday to see the results of thehospital’s recent renovation of its pediatric unit and other areas. “St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital has undergone an amazing transformation,” said the senator. “The health of our community is well-served by this organization which cares for every citizen in the region.”  The senator, a strong proponent for the renovation of the pediatric unit, secured a $250,000 grant for the hospital. “Once again, Senator Larkin has demonstrated his commitment to our community,” said Atzrott. “His responsiveness and dedication has been instrumental to our accomplishments.”

Senator Larkin’s visit also included tours of the new Center for Joint Replacement, which was presented to the community in early 2008, and brand new telemetry unit that opened just days ago and houses private rooms with monitored beds. He had the opportunity to see that the rooms are both comfortable and functional, with unobstructed views of the Hudson River and surrounding mountainside. Patients from Club Mobility, a communal program created for joint replacement patients to receive physical therapy and learn exercise techniques, had the opportunity to speak with the senator, sharing their opinions of the new space. “It’s absolutely beautiful here,” said patient Salvator Seneca of the Town of Newburgh. “I feel great and can’t believe I’m leaving after a few days!”

The renovations at SLCH are all part of the 10-year Master Facilities Plan which began in 2004 and has brought facility, program and service enhancements in support of the hospital’s mission to provide high-quality patient care.
