Review of Fluconazole (Diflucan) dosing in Urinary Tract Infections –
At SLCH, it is common practice to use the 100mg dose for the vast majority of patients with yeast in their urine. Under-dosing can lead to ineffective yeast killing and the emergence of resistance. Please dose your patients appropriately based on their condition and renal function.
The recommended dosing is as follows:
For the treatment of urinary tract infection (UTI), including symptomatic cystitis and pyelonephritis, caused by Candida sp.(e.g. candiduria).
Oral or Intravenous dosage:
Adults: The manufacturer recommends 50—200 mg PO or IV daily for urinary tract infections. The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) recommends 200 mg (3 mg/kg) PO or IV daily for 7—14 days for symptomatic cystitis and 200—400 mg (3—6 mg/kg) PO or IV daily for 14 days for pyelonephritis. The IDSA does not recommend routine treatment of asymptomatic candiduria. Patients who undergo urologic manipulations with asymptomatic candiduria should receive fluconazole 200—400 mg (3—6 mg/kg) PO or IV daily for several days before and after the urologic procedure.

The SLCH New to You Boutique recently held their annual “Sale of 1,000 Coats.” The coat sale raised more than $5,000 in support of hospital programs and initiatives, but more importantly, sold hundreds of warm, winter attire to members of our community, at an extremely discounted cost.
 |
All coats that were not sold have been donated to shelters in the area, to help keep the community warm.
Thank you to the SLC Auxiliary for their time and donations, and thank you to all who donated, purchased and volunteered at the annual sale! |

In October, members of the East Fishkill Rotary welcomed the Director of Clinical Practice, Margaret Allers at their weekly meeting at Anthony’s Catering in Hopewell. Margaret gave a great presentation on stroke symptoms, treatment, and even some precautionary measures one can take to help prevent the risk of stroke.
Thanks to the Rotary for welcoming us into their group, yet again! |
