Newburgh, NY: St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital recently unveiled a new and improved Pharmacy. The 2,500-square-foot facility provides around-the-clock service to patients in a spacious and highly clean environment.
The new pharmacy includes several advanced technologies, including IV admixture and chemotherapy equipped clean rooms, with monitored air quality and pressure. A Glove Box for compounding prescriptions is also included in the new Pharmacy, allowing for less preparation time and eliminating direct contact between prescriptions and the pharmacist.
“We’re in the final phase of renovations taking place at the Newburgh campus” said Allan E. Atzrott, SLCH President and CEO. “It’s been a long road, but it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come, and we look forward to the many changes ahead.”

The new space is equipped with Modular Shelving, allowing the pharmacist to choose the best prescription for each patient quickly. There are spacious offices and conference rooms, making educational seminars possible, right inside the facility.

“It’s great to see how the Pharmacy has evolved,” said Shirley Tolat, SLCH Pharmacy Director. “Our previous facility was outdated and divided. This new space provides us with advanced technologies to speed up the process and a more efficient work environment with well organized, increased storage space.”
The renovated and relocated Pharmacy meets United States Pharmacopoeia standards (USP 797). This construction project is part of SLCH’s HEAL Project, which includes renovations of the hospital’s Infusion Center, Ambulatory Surgery Unit, Lobby, Laboratory, and Pharmacy. Construction on the Pharmacy began in late 2009 and was completed at the end of 2010.
