Newburgh, NY – More than 100 girls from across the region flooded the New to You Boutique on Saturday to buy prom dresses for less. Accompanied by their parents, grandparents and friends, many high school students were able to find that one special dress – and support a good cause in the process.
“This is the second year in a row I’ve found a dress at Prom Fest.”, said Brianna, a Prom Fest attendee, who found not one but two dresses this year. There are so many great dresses to choose from, I couldn’t just pick one!”
Hosted by the SLCH Auxiliary, Prom Fest has emerged as a unique event that gives high school girls a venue to buy new and gently used gowns at reduced prices. Gowns are collected at various drop-off points throughout the region and then sold at the New to You Boutique for the big one-day sale. All proceeds benefit the SLC Auxiliary, which supports hospital projects and initiatives.
Prom Fest sales raised more than $3,000. The Auxiliary hopes to expand the event next year.
“Through partnerships with community leaders and businesses, we were able to collect some beautiful dresses and ultimately raise money for the hospital Auxiliary,” said Eileen Osterby, Chair of the Auxiliary Board. “More gratifying, however, are the looks on the faces of the girls who realize they just found the dress they were looking for. It’s a great event to be a part of.”
