We are proud to announce the May Star of the Month. Maricelis Rosa has been an SLCH employee since 2007 in the Food and Nutrition department at the Cornwall campus. She is being recognized for her caring manner and going above and beyond her job duties.
Maricelis always makes sure patients in the infusion center have food items and never run out. She surpasses her job requirements, is constantly offering something new and has her cell phone available if someone needs something. She truly cares about the patients.
“When asked what sandwiches our patients liked the best, Maricelis made sure we had those specific food items right away,” said an employee at the infusion center. Maricelis’ compassion for the SLCH patients and staff is appreciated and highly recognized.
Congratulations Maricelis!

On April 27, 2012 the first triplets were born at SLCH in the Elaine Kaplan Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Timothy and Beth Doyle are now the proud parents of two boys and one girl.
When choosing to deliver their babies, the Sullivan county residents decided on SLCH Birthing Center and its NICU specialist, Dr. Prabhakar Kocherlakota, M.D.
SLCH Ob/Gyn, Dr. Stephen Cestari delivered the three babies via scheduled C. Section. NICU specialist Dr. Prabhakar Kocherlakota, MD was also involved.
Carly Anne, 5.7 pounds Kaden Timothy, 5.8 pounds and Finn Steven, 4.13 pounds entered the world. It was a magical day for the Doyle family and a first for SLCH!

SLCH has partnered with Wallkill High School in an effort to prevent teen driving accidents. Kathy Sheehan, RN, SLCH Emergency Department nurse, was among those present who addressed the teens, parents and school staff at Wallkill High School on April 30.
Sheehan, who spoke with concern in her voice, shared personal accounts of her experiences treating both adult and teen crash victims.
“Knowing many teens in our community, it is difficult for me and the Emergency Department staff to see these young lives ended too soon.”
Additional speakers who gave firsthand accounts of fatal accidents were Mike and Linda Brooks of Brooks Funeral Home, Mrs. Sharon Davis, mother of Andrew Davis who was killed in 2007, and Mr. Joseph Snyder, whose son survived a motor vehicle crash.

Congratulations to the operating room for the spring cleaning of the PACU to organize and increase efficiency.

April showers brought May flowers! Here are some tips to help avoid injuries while planting your flowers. Use a gardening bench or knee pads, squat down, and do not stoop over. Not all the planting needs to be done at once. Breaking up the planting into small increments minimizes your risk of neck and back injury and maximizes your chance of having everything you want in your garden.
