Caitlan Bose’s Journey to Achieving Wellness

Caitlan Bose

Lost 94 pounds on her Journey to Wellness!

After the birth of her son, Caitlan Bose, Community Relations Assistant at SLCH, had a goal to get back into shape. This was no easy task for Caitlan; her first time running she couldn’t even make it down the bottom of her hill. Week after week, Caitlan started to run because she realized it was “her” time free of stress, all emails and phone calls would have to wait. After she was able to run three miles she signed up for a half marathon to challenge herself. She anticipated walking it, but surprised herself once again and ran 13.1 miles straight. Since then she has run in Double Dash, Lap 4 Life and is running in Hartford Half Marathon.

The most personal race awaits Caitlan in November. She is training to run the New York City marathon which is 26.2 miles and is using a program called “training peaks” a personal training program that can be downloaded to your phone. Caitlin’s participation in the NYC Marathon will benefit the Children’s Tumor Foundation. Not only has Caitlan achieved her own wellness she runs for the wellness of others.

Please email Sarah Michella, Marketing Coordinator, at smichella@slchospital.org or call 784-3849 to tell your wellness story and you could be in Pulse!

Patients with this chronic illness must weight themselves daily to monitor their fluid status and maintain a state of well being. Maureen reached into her own pocket and purchased scales so her patients could have them.

Kathy Mason wrote an article about patients not having access to scales that was published in American Journal of Nursing. Kathy donated the $150.00 she received for publishing the article to SLCH to establish the “Daily Weight Fund” to promote scales to CHF patients.

September Tip of the Month from our Physical Therapy Department

Tip from Physical Therapy

Autumn is here and raking leaves can be hard on your back.  Try these tips: use a curved handle ergonomic rake, take frequent breaks, gently return to an upright position, consider a mulching lawn mower/tractor, take a hot shower or use ice to relax muscles and simply avoid bending too much.

“Hudson Health Partners represents a true collaboration among physician’s, employers, and insurance payers working to ensure access to high quality care, and sustaining and enhancing services to our communities. In this environment of increasing cost and reduced reimbursement, health care providers need to think differently,” said Atzrott. “Collaborations are needed in order to respond to the needs of the communities served, to provide access to services such as home health and chronic care. Access to these services are essential in ensuring continuity, a cornerstone of Health Care Reform.

Collectively these hospitals represent three counties, and 988,000 people residing in the region. As a partnership, the Hudson Health Partners employ 5,800 employees, have a medical staff representing 1,600 physicians, and collective operating budgets totaling $814,000,000.
